Step 1: Read the Race Card
Each race features 8 horses with three stats:
- Speed: Base running speed. Higher is faster.
- Stamina: How well a horse holds up late in the race.
- Consistency: How predictable the performance is. Low consistency means wild variance.
Morning Line odds reflect each horse's chances based on stats.
Step 2: Win / Place / Show
The three basic bet types:
- Win: Your horse must finish 1st.
- Place: Your horse must finish 1st or 2nd.
- Show: Your horse must finish 1st, 2nd, or 3rd.
Win pays the most, Show pays the least but hits more often.
Step 3: Exacta & Trifecta
Exotic bets with bigger payoffs:
- Exacta: Pick 1st and 2nd in exact order.
- Trifecta: Pick 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in exact order.
Exotic bets are harder to hit but pay significantly more.
Step 4: Understanding Odds
RoboHorses uses pari-mutuel odds -- payouts depend on the betting pool.
- Odds update as bets are placed.
- More money on a horse = lower odds.
- The house takes 17% of the pool (industry standard).
Step 5: Watch the Race
Hit Run Race to start. Horses sprint across the track in real time.
- Watch for late closers with high stamina.
- Low consistency horses can surprise everyone.
- Results and payouts appear after the finish.
